What we are building
Drawn, approved,not yet built.
It goes up on land the community already owns, beside the masjid it already prays in. Every space named on the image is on the approved site plan, at the area the drawings give it.
Areas are taken from the room schedule on the approved site plan.
The same home.A much greater capacity to serve.

This did not start yesterday
You may have heard about this project for years. Now see what those years produced.
Eleven years of planning, approvals, grading, utilities and paving. Each stage is dated and documented by the masjid itself.
Keep it movingThis is not a project waiting to start.
It is a project already underway.
Off-site construction is underway. After it, the Masjid itself.
What does this campaign move forward?
Every dollar raised helps Tawheed keep advancing the project, instead of letting the next phase wait on funding. The stages below follow the masjid’s own published sequence.
-
2015 to 2021
1 Land, planning and approvals
The property was purchased, the design developed, and the entitlement process completed with a unanimous city approval.
-
2022 to 2024
2 Major site work
Excavation, the masonry wall, fencing, grading and the underground utilities that everything else depends on.
-
2025
3 Parking and infrastructure
Stormwater retention pond built, final asphalt laid, and roughly 130 parking spaces added with lighting and EV charging.
-
2026
4 Off-site improvements
A second entrance and exit, a dedicated left-turn pocket and Campbell Road work. Permits are in hand, the contract is awarded, and construction has started.
-
Next
5 Final building planning
Completing the building plan submittal and securing the approvals needed before vertical construction can begin.
-
Next
6 Masjid construction
Building the Masjid itself. This is the phase every stage so far has been preparing the ground for.
Why expand
The masjid grew.So did the community around it.
Masjid Al-Tawheed is not simply a place people come for Jumu’ah. It already serves this community through worship, Qur’an and Islamic education, youth and adult learning, marriages, funerals, and programs for Muslim families. The expansion gives that work room to grow.
What does “Tawheed” mean?
The absolute Oneness of Allah.
- Different cultures.
- Different languages.
- Different ages.
- Different stories.
- One Qiblah. One Ummah.
Masjid Al-Tawheed was built through the sacrifice of a community. Its next chapter is for the entire Ummah.
This institution was established and sustained by the Afghan community of Elk Grove. The legal entity behind it is still the Elk Grove Afghan Community Center. That history is the foundation. What their sacrifice made possible is a masjid whose doors are open to the wider Muslim community.
Honour the people who built the foundation.Build for everyone who comes next.

Why give to a masjid?
Build something that continues after you.
مَنْ بَنَى لِلَّهِ مَسْجِدًا بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ مِثْلَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ
“Whoever builds a masjid for Allah, Allah will build for him the like of it in Paradise.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 450 · Sahih Muslim 533
One contribution. Then everything that happens inside it, for as long as it stands.
- 01 A salah you helped make room for.
- 02 A child learning Qur’an.
- 03 A shahadah.
- 04 A Ramadan night.
- 05 A janazah.
- 06 A family finding community.
- 07 A young Muslim finding somewhere to belong.
- 08 A Qur’an recited long after we are gone.
- And it keeps going, for as long as the masjid stands.
The building is physical. The impact does not have to end.
Give sadaqah jariyahWhy has this project taken so long?
Because most of it was never the building. This project required years of planning, engineering, agency review, environmental and traffic work, drainage and FEMA review, city revisions, permitting and major infrastructure before a single wall could go up. The timeline above shows what each of those years actually produced.
Is the project actually under construction?
Yes. Major grading is complete, compaction tests have passed, the stormwater retention pond is built, and the parking lot has been paved with roughly 130 usable spaces including EV charging. Off-site improvements, a second entrance and exit and a dedicated left-turn pocket, are being built now.
What has already been completed?
- Land acquired
- Planning process and city approval
- Wall and fencing work
- Major grading
- Underground utilities
- Stormwater retention infrastructure
- Compaction and inspection work
- Parking expansion, approximately 130 spaces
Is this only for the Afghan community?
No. Masjid Al-Tawheed has deep roots in the Afghan community that established and sustained it, and that history is honoured rather than hidden. The masjid serves Muslims and families from across Elk Grove, and its religious, educational and community services are open to the Muslim community.
Can I give zakat to this campaign?
No. Zakat cannot be used to build or maintain a masjid. Please give from sadaqah instead. If you wish to give zakat, contact the masjid and it will be directed to eligible recipients.
Can people outside Elk Grove donate?
Yes. Anyone can contribute, from anywhere.
Can I donate monthly?
Yes. Use the monthly toggle in the giving section.
Can I give Qard Hasan?
Yes. Submit the Qard Hasan enquiry and a representative from Tawheed will contact you to discuss the arrangement directly. No terms are published on this page.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Masjid Al-Tawheed operates under the Elk Grove Afghan Community Center, a registered 501(c)(3) organisation, EIN 38-3676976. Please confirm deductibility with the masjid or your tax adviser.
How can I verify the construction progress?
The masjid publishes a dated construction update archive covering every month from 2015 onward, at masjidaltawheed.com/newmasjid.
Who can I contact with questions?
